Every week the AOL realm published News of the Realm (also called Neverwinter News): events, contests, guild news, notices, and stories written by the players. 115 issues from 1993 to 1997 survive.
They are kept in the BladeKeep Neverwinter Nights preservation archive, an independent, non-commercial project. We do not copy the issues. This page links to them, so you read them where their keepers put them. The original text belongs to its authors; the archive's Preservation & Stewardship page explains how it is looked after.
The issues are long, often tens of thousands of characters, so they are for reading on a computer. The revival's own news, written for the Hall, is shorter.
Where to start
- Sep 1993 – The first issue in the archive. Among the news, two players open a weapons shop in the Southeast Woods.
- Oct 1993 – Tavern Tales: the murder-mystery night at the Great Hall Tavern is solved and the winners get free hours online. A Harvest Festival month of tavern events is announced.
- Dec 1993 – Tips for the new 2.1 realm on finding money: sell what you find at the Armory, and trade platinum for gems at a Jeweler.
- 6 May 1995 – A guide to common problems players ran into, including vault trouble when two versions of the game are used.
- 20 May 1995 – A story in which a new adventurer is sent by Lord Nasher to the Wharves.
- 13 Oct 1996 – Issue 155: contest winners, and "A Test of Will", an event run by NW Events.
- 5 Jan 1997 – Among the notices, a player-run shop advertises "unusual and rare" goods, open "now and then and by special appointment".
- 30 Mar 1997 – The last issue in the archive.
