NWN REVIVAL - CLIENT FILES version 1.3.9-afe23f4, 2026-10-13
=====================================================================

These small programs let your own copy of the Neverwinter Nights 2.22
online client for DOS sign on to our realm and show The Adventurers'
Hall. The game itself is NOT included: you need your own GAME.EXE and
its .DAX files.

NWN.COM the connection: dials, signs on, shows the Hall, starts
the game, brings you back to the Hall afterwards
NWNSETUP.COM settings (connection, port, speed, account, sound...)
HALL.DAX the Hall's pictures (the hearth fire, the pipe smoke,
the glimmering crystal on the help page)
  DOSBOX.CNF a ready DOSBox / DOSBox-X configuration (optional)

The realm's address is: nwnrevival.com:5000

INSTALL
  1. Copy NWN.COM, NWNSETUP.COM and HALL.DAX into the folder that holds
GAME.EXE (next to the .DAX files). You do not need AOLSTUB.COM.
  2. Run NWNSETUP. Up/Down picks a line, Enter changes it, F1 explains
the line in detail, S saves, ESC leaves.
Connection WiFi Modem / DOSBox-X (Over Internet): a WiFi
modem or DOSBox dials the address below
Modem Dialup: a phone modem dials a number
that answers straight into the realm
Manual: a small terminal, for a gateway or
                            BBS with its own menu (dial it yourself;
NWN signs on when the realm answers)
Serial port the COM port your modem is on
Port speed WiFi modem: set the modem (AT*B) to match.
                          19200 needs a 16550 UART; use 9600 or 2400
                          on an older serial card
Hall screen Pictures (CGA/EGA/VGA/Tandy) or Text
       Number or IP:port nwnrevival.com:5000
Account name your account (or leave blank and type it
                          when asked)
Password blank = type it when asked
Sound, Music, Graphics: as on your machine
  3. Run NWN. It dials, signs on and shows the Hall.
P enter the realms (play) F1 help
W who is online N News of the Realm
When you leave the game you come back to the Hall on the same
call. Q leaves Neverwinter (hangs up).

WITH DOSBOX OR DOSBOX-X (Windows, macOS, Linux)
DOSBox's emulated modem dials the address like a WiFi modem would.
DOSBOX.CNF turns it on (serial1 = modem) and mounts your game folder
as drive X:, because the game's GAME.CFG expects X:\NWN. Put your
files in a folder called NWN, edit the "mount x" line in DOSBOX.CNF
to the folder above it, and start: dosbox-x -conf DOSBOX.CNF
Run NWNSETUP first and choose Connection: WiFi Modem / DOSBox-X.

GOOD TO KNOW
  * Which version you have: type NWN /V at the DOS prompt, or press F1
in the Hall and open "The Hall". NWNSETUP shows it in its title.
  * A new account may need an invitation code while the realm is young.
Write to us (contact page on nwnrevival.com) and we will send one.
  * NWN.COM never sends your password when you sign in: it answers a
one-time challenge from the realm instead. It is sent only once:
when you first choose it (or, for an older account, the first
sign-in with this NWN.COM). Do not reuse a password from elsewhere.
  * Answering that challenge is slow on an old PC (over a minute on a
Tandy 1000). With a saved password, NWN.COM does it once and keeps
the result in NWN.KEY, so later sign-ins are quick. NWN.KEY lets
this PC sign in as you, like the saved password does: delete both
    if others use the PC.
  * The two programs are packed with PKLITE to keep casual snooping
out. A few virus scanners dislike old packed .COM files: they are
safe, and you can ask us for details.
  * Nothing here is made by or affiliated with the original publishers.
This is a fan project. See the Legal page on nwnrevival.com.
